Is Ford Friends & Neighbors Pricing A Good Deal?

Is Ford Friends And Neighbors Pricing A Good Deal

By now, you have surely heard that Ford is rolling out the new Ford Friends and Neighbors Pricing Event to close out the 4th quarter with a bang. According to our friends in Dearborn, this new program is the best thing since sliced bread, or at least the GM Employee pricing from 2005.

But with all of the hype, it is hard to get down to the raw facts surrounding the program to determine whether the Ford Friends and Neighbors Program is actually a good deal for the consumer.

So is the Ford Friends & Neighbors Pricing A Good Deal?

Well, first off it depends on who you ask. Dealers will certainly say no because it is the same amount of work for less profit. That is because the entire program is an effort for Ford to regain market share from its competitors, that it lost during the ramp up of their new F-150 plants earlier this year.

Ford’s strategy is incredibly simple: Drop Prices = Increased Sales = More Market Share. That’s right, Ford’s strategy is simply give away vehicles.

But, in order to determine whether the program is a good deal for consumers we need to get into the details of the program itself. What Ford is proposing with its new Year-End Sale is offering what is generally known as X-Plan to all buyers.

X-Plan pricing provides buyers from select companies and friends and neighbors with pricing that is basically at invoice.

Ford Friends and Neighbors Sales Event
Breakdown of Dealer Gross On Ford Friends and Neighbors Sale

Dealer’s generally make over $2,000 per vehicle sold, but with the Ford Friends and Neighbors Event it looks like the entire front and back end will amount to around $1,500 and probably even less because the pricing structure removes rebates and leaves dealers in a bit of a race to the bottom.

Based on the current information that is available it appears that the Ford Friends and Neighbors Pricing Event is a strong deal for the consumer with the added benefit of an easy, no hassle transaction.

Q: Where can I find the Friends and Neighbors Price?

A: As stated above, the price is the same as X-Plan and it can be found on the vehicle invoice and on the supplemental window label

Q: What vehicles are eligible for this special event?

A: Most new Ford vehicles are eligible for the special pricing. Only a few select vehicles have been labeled ineligible by Ford including the Mustang Boss 302, Mustang Shelby GT 500, Mustang Shelby GT 350, F-150 Raptor, F-550, and the Stripped Chassis, E-450

Q: Do I need any sort of special PIN or qualification code?

A: Usually X-Plan customers need to have a special PIN to receive the the invoice price; however no such PIN or code is necessary during this special event.

Q: How long does the program last?

A: The program will start on Tuesday November 3rd, and run until January 4th of 2016.

So, bottom line, if you are in the market for a new Ford car, truck, or SUV, the Ford Friends and Neighbors Pricing Event will provide some excellent pricing options. But here’s the inside scoop that dealers don’t want you to know: you can probably even get a deal at under Friends and Family if you just ask!

Sorry Dealers. Happy Car Buying Friends!

Bad Credit Car Loans In Massachusetts

Massachusetts Car Loans

Bad Credit Car Loans In MassachusettsThe Future Of Financing

With the average age of cars on the road cresting over 11 years there are many Massachusetts drivers in need of new, reliable transportation. The problem is that many drivers cannot get financed for new car loans due to low credit scores and past history of bankruptcy, short sale, and low credit scores.

Many of the drivers with bad credit are struggling because of the sub prime lending crisis and housing bubble that burst a few years ago, others are struggling for other reasons. No matter what the cause there are many drivers searching for bad credit car loans in Massachusetts.

There have been many bad credit car loan programs that have been pushed recently, some effective, some ineffective, and some that the AG’s office is investigating.  Many Brockton Ford customers have found support at local Massachusetts Dealerships that have bad credit car loan programs.

One of the more popular programs of 2014 & 2015 has been the You Can Drive A Chevy program. This innovative program was the work of the Massachusetts Chevy Dealers, NE Chevy Dealers and GM Financial. By partnering together this lending network had much success.

What does 2015 hold for bad credit car loans in Massachusetts? Well, early indications show that some local Chevy Dealers in MA are having success with their bad credit programs and other banks such as Santander are having success with their Uber Driver programs.

It looks like 2015 is going to be a great lending year with restrictions lightened to boost the economy. Lower interest rates are predicted to boost home sales and affordability and hopefully the economy as a whole will prosper.  The lower oil prices right now are having a positive impact on many US industries and for consumers as a whole it looks like bad credit car loans in Massachusetts will be available in 2015.

Winter Driving – Some Tips That May Save Your Life

Winter Driving Tips
Drive Safe in the snow and sleet.

Let’s all take a deep breath and say it together, winter is coming. There isn’t that better.  It is bad enough that the cold weather and darkness turn us into veritable hermits, but the cold icy weather makes driving almost unbearable at times. Here are some driving tips that could save your life.

1. Watch Your Speed

It may sound simple, but driving the speed limit may not be the right speed in snowy, wintry conditions. You need to use caution to make sure your vehicle is in control and you can stop within a matter of seconds. Even if that hot shot behind you starts flashing his high beams and riding your bumper, it is better to be safe than dead.

2. Leave Room For Error

When conditions are more difficult it is wise to leave a little extra braking room. It can take 4 to 9 times longer to brake in wintry conditions so leaving a few extra car lengths will keep you happy and out of your local Collision Center.

3. Pump Those Brakes

If you don’t have anti-lock brakes (ABS) be sure to pump those brakes. This can help reduce skidding and improve stopping power. Even if you do have ABS, there are times where pumping your brakes will help with traction and be able to right your ship, captain.

4. Get Winter Tires

I don’t know why some of my friends insist on driving without winter tires! They rock. They improve traction and stopping power and give me confidence on any winter terrain. You should definitely invest in a set.

5. Stay Focused

Keep your head in the game, keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel because the road ahead is uncertain and the end is always near.

Thanks friends.

Where To Get The Best Oil Change In Boston, MA

Oil Change In Boston MA

There are some tidbits of worldly advice, adages, maxims, and etc. that we retain from childhood. Some of my favorites include:

1. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react,
2. Close the door. What do you live in a barn?,
3. A watched pot never boils, and
4. Change your oil every 3,000 miles or else.

These have been guiding principles for me, which may explain more than a thing or two. The first three seem to hold up to today’s modern, macabre, digital dreamworld; however, the 3,000 mile oil change is now a relic of simpler times.

Boston Oil Change
What Happens After 3,000 Miles

With the latest engine technologies it is no longer necessary to change the oil every 3,000 miles, 5,000 miles or even 7,000 miles. In fact, some vehicles can go 10,000 miles before an oil change. This is great for the convenience of the driver as well as the environment.

But with the increase in mileage there can be a lost connection to a dealership, mechanic, chain or other local shop when it comes to get an Oil Change in Boston.

There are many chains such as Meineke and Jiffy Lube that can handle your oil change rapidly and get you on the road cheaply. But there is something impersonal that reminds me of waiting for deli meat with a paper ticket in hand with no free sample at the end of the line.

Deli LIne Oil Change

There are many modern facilities in the Boston area. From the Kellys, Herb Chambers, Quirks, and IRAs of the world we have certainly have no shortage of massive, modern, expensive dealerships in Boston, MA. These dealerships and many others like them do an excellent job at providing modern amenities and expensive lounges that cater to a certain clientele.

But, to me, a good oil change is something more than bricks, mortar and tile. It is about longevity, reputation, standing in the community, history and people. That is why one of my favorite places for an oil change in boston is Muzi Ford.

This is where you father and grandfather had their oil changed and it still maintains that nostalgic heir. The dealership has been family owned and operated in Needham, MA since 1932 and the people there are great. Muzi is Boston. They still call this place “Muzi Ford City”  I mean check this place out:

So that is my vote for the best oil change in Boston. I know there are many other places to get an oil change but this is my favorite. If you are in the Boston area and in need of an oil change swing by Muzi Ford you won’t regret it.

2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch Wins Fallon’s Favor

According to a, likely inaccurate, internet source searched for the sake of this article, the average American is exposed to approximately 247 ad messages each day.

While the accuracy of that can figure can be debated, it is clear that the number of marketing messages taken in each day by Americans is surely on the rise.  It now seems that every event and almost every inch of digital real estate is, at least, colored by a slanted marketing message carefully crafted to influence the behavior and opinions of the citizenry.

Ortiz Selfie
The Now Infamous “Selfie”

Take this innocuous example: the Red Sox recent trip to visit the President at the White House.  Instead of just enjoying a rare opportunity to meet with the President Ortiz turned the visit to the White House into a marketing stunt all for a quick buck.  According Ortiz himself, “You don’t get a chance to get a photo with the president every day. That’s one thing in life . . . it happened and I appreciate it.”

2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch
Jimmy Fallon “Chooses” 2015 F-150

A similar disingenuous stunt was pulled by newly appointed Tonight Show Host, Jimmy Fallon, when he named the 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch as his pick for a new truck. The contest came into fruition after Fallon admitted to getting stuck in the sand in his SUV to former California Governor and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Well, that and a thinly guised marketing partnership between NBC and Ford.

Ultimately, Fallon chose a super cool truck, but isn’t some of the impact of the choice lost when the entire effort is supported by a multi-million dollar marketing relationship between NBC and Ford?

2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch
2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch

This year, Ford launches the highly anticipated 2015 Ford F-150 with lighter aluminum bodies that provide for better fuel economy. King Ranch editions have been a part of the Ford line for the last 15 years as a part of a unique relationship between the motor company an actual Texas ranch in Kingsville, Texas.

2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch Boston MA
2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch

Ford recognized the King Ranch represented the same philosophies it designs and engineers into its trucks: toughness, authenticity, integrity and quality.  According to King Ranch CEO, Robert Underbrink, “King Ranch editions aren’t merely trim levels, they are representations of an authentic American story that parallels that of Ford Motor Company.”

The success of Ford’s association with the King Ranch is reflected in sales, especially in Texas. Forty percent of all F-Series Super Duty King Ranch editions are sold in Texas.

These types of stunts seem to almost degrade the authenticity of the King Ranch brand that Ford so adeptly and carefully developed. But hey, as the number one selling pickup for about 37 years, Ford must be doing something right.

Great choice Jimmy! (ugh)

Massachusetts Chevy Dealers Cope With GM Recall

Massachusetts Chevrolet Recall

Massachusetts Chevy Dealers, like many others across the country, are currently scrambling to recover from the recent GM recall of hundreds of thousands on new cars and trucks.

General Motors announced, on Friday March 29th, that it is recalling a portion of its Chevrolet Cruze models for potential axle fractures as well as 490,000 trucks and SUVs for possible transmission cooler line problems.

GM Recall Comes At Tough TIme

The recall impacts the 2013 and 2014 1.4L turbo gasoline powered Cruze. In addition to the Cruze, the recall impacts the all-new 2015 Chevy Tahoe, 2015 Chevy Suburban and the 2014 Silverado.  The GM trucks and SUVs have been recalled because the transmission cooler line is not securely seated in the fitting which could lead to a transmission oil leak.

These new recalls come at a difficult time for GM as the Detroit manufacturer goes before Congress to testify regarding the faulty switch in the Chevy Cobalt that lead to multiple fatalities. The good news is that there have been no crashes, fires or injuries related to this current round of recalls.

Massachusetts Chevy Dealers
Massachusetts Chevy Lineup

According to Massachusetts Chevy Dealers, the recall has slowed sales. The timing has been difficult as March is traditionally a very strong month for dealers with pent up winter demand driving higher volume.  Most of the Massachusetts Chevrolet dealers that we spoke with stated that they are currently repairing their inventory and should be back up to full capacity soon.

Everyone agrees that the most important thing is to make sure that the vehicles are properly repaired. If you own one of the recalled vehicles you can bring your vehicle to your local MA Chevy Dealer where technicians can inspect your vehicle and make any and all necessary repairs.

BMW Is Getting Boring – Meet the 2014 BMW 320i

BMW Is Boring

As an automotive enthusiast it is hard not to respect the good folks over at Bayerische Motoren Werke AG.  Since the 1928 launch of the Dixi, the German manufacturer has simply built some of the best sports cars in automotive history.

Railhead Online BMW 507
The Iconic BMW 507 Roadster

You also have to love BMW’s  bravado. Dubbing yourself the “Ultimate” anything certainly indicates the presence of, at least some, swagger. In BMW’s case that swagger is rightfully deserved. From the beautiful 507 and Z8 roadsters to the sporty M5 and M6 BMW has created some stylish and powerful vehicles.  But, perhaps, none as consistently lauded as the BMW 3 Series line.

BMW Is Boring
BMW Z8 Interior

Maybe it is partially because the 3 Series is so accessible, but the handling, performance and practicality of the line has earned it top honors by drivers and critics alike for many years.  That being said, the Railhead Automotive staff (and by staff I mean myself) believes that BMW got lazy with the release of the 2014 BMW 320i and fear that BMW may be on the verge of getting boring.

Chess Lessons From BMW
Chess Lessons From BMW

At Railhead, we understand that the 320i is an entry level model; however, we simply expect more from a brand that has brazenly dubbed itself the Ultimate Driving Machine. With a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that produced 180hp and 200 lb-ft of torque the 2014 BMW 320i can be outpaced by many affordable products by Nissan, Ford, Mazda and even Hyundai.

Boring BMW 320i
BMW 320i is boring

By comparison, the 2014 BMW 328i xDrive comes equipped with a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that produces 240HP and 255lb ft of torque, while the 335i xDrive produces over 300 horsepower.  We are not saying that the sixth generation F30 is the perfect 3 Series, far from it.  It has lost some of the connected road feel with the introduction of the electric steering and there is a visceral connection to the snarling V6 that is lost with the new 4 cylinder. But, why did BMW need to downgrade the engine from the 328i? Was it just to save a few measly bucks? Has BMW lost its commitment to performance? I may not be the one to speak to this as I am an American auto enthusiast and drive a Chevy from a local Massachusetts Chevy Dealer, but I felt the need to discuss.

BMW Is Boring
The BMW 320i Interior

We hope that BMW does not become boring and we frankly don’t believe that it will. Despite the foregoing, the fit and finish of the 320i still provides that classic BMW sporty luxury feel and the driving 0-60 in 6.7 seconds is still respectable.  We just think that BMW has become overly obsessed with sales volume and its status as #1 luxury brand and it has come at the expense of performance; hopefully, that trend does not continue with all of its “new” releases.

Independent Automotive Research | Welcome To Railhead Online

Railhead is an idea that I had been toying with for a few months.  The concept: to create an independent, interactive automotive research resource that would be accessible to auto enthusiasts and casual browsers alike. The difficulty was finding the time, energy and motivation to develop the appropriate platform for this journey…I think that I am finally ready to embark.

Railhead Independent Automotive Research
Railhead Automotive Musings

The impetus for railhead came when I was performing automotive research online in anticipation of the purchase of my next car.  During my, somewhat extensive, somewhat lazy, research I found that an independent voice was hard to find. There are so many websites, blogs and review sites that seem to be owned or at least influenced by manufacturers and dealers it can be difficult to find a forum or voice that provides an honest opinion of a model, concept or brand.  Railhead aims to be that voice.

Here we will talk all things GMC, Mazda, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, Chevrolet, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Maserati, Bentley, Pontiac, Rolls, Buick, and much more!

I know it is a big responsibility, I know there will be dramatic failures, but I hope that the opportunity to build a candid community of forthright “railheads” focused on independent automotive research and reviews make it worth the time and effort. So shine on railheads like the headlight on a northbound train. I look forward to interacting with you over the next days, months and maybe even years.

Your faithful author,
